A new bicycle repair station opened in August 2025 along Bicycle Route 76 in the community of Palmyra, Virginia. This station provides tools, a picnic table, and an information guide all under a sheltered space. Located just a few yards from Route 76, the station is easily visible from both directions as cyclists cross the Rivanna River in Fluvanna County.

According to reports in the Fluvanna Review and other media, the station was created with financial support organized by the Fluvanna Rotary Club and other organizations, as well as hundreds of hours of donated time and effort. As noted in this report, the station serves cyclists along the Transamerican Bicycle Route 76 who need tools to repair their bicycles or just a place to stop for a rest. Palmyra is also located along several popular regional cycling routes, particularly those originating in Charlottesville, located just twenty miles to the northwest. The station is next to the E. W. Thomas grocery store, which has been serving the local community for almost a century. This station is thus well situated to connect national, regional, and local patrons at a visible, convenient, and useful location. A peace pole next to the station provides an inspirational message to visitors.

An information sign inside the station connects the Transamerican Bicycle Route 76, including the 22.7 miles in Fluvanna County, with regional history, beginning with the Monacan Native American tribe which populated the region prior to English settlement. Fluvanna county was established in 1777 and the first Methodist ministers in the United States were ordained in 1779 near Palmyra, two events connecting the revolutionary era to subsequent developments.
To learn more about history along Route 76 near this bicycle repair station, listen to the Bike 76 VA podcast episodes for Shannon Hill (10), about religious history in the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as Fluvanna (11), about the struggle for school integration in Virginia.

If you are cycling through Palmyra, stop at the bicycle repair station, get some food or drink at the grocery store, and enjoy the view of the Rivanna River and the surrounding hills.
